St. Vincent Is Named The Record Store Day Ambassador

Mimi LaMuraglia

The date has been announced! Record Store Day will be celebrated on the 22nd of April, and St. Vincent is the 2017 ambassador. What does St. Vincent think thing of her new title?  “It is with deep honor and humility that I accept this ambassadorship. Rest assured I do not take my duties lightly.” Along with this quote found on recordstoreday.com, Funny or Die have just released a short video in which St. Vincent gets prepped to become the ambassador of a fake island off the coast of Russia called, “Recorstorda.”

But what does all of this mean? What even is Record Store Day? In the digital age of streaming and downloading music, there are still those who value the process and culture of tangible music. It isn’t a dead format, and Record Store Day was established in 2007 to commend that. It is a celebration of all that make up an independently owned record store: the artists, customers, staff, and owners. Several cities across the U.S. have acknowledge this day as an official holiday. Many independent record stores participate by having meet and greets, special vinyl releases, DJ’s spin, and more.  Go to recordstoreday.com and enter in your area code to see what stores near you have signed the pledge to participate in the day.***St. Vincent is said to be releasing new album this spring.***
