Earlier this week Drake tweeted and posted to IG that he was having a pop up store in NYC. Three seconds after Drake posting it @xosimmy started blowing up the group chat saying that we NEEDED to go. So Simran & Erika postponed their work and I skipped my class and we walked over, it was about a 20-minute walk from where I stay. From Drake’s pic I was praying that it was going to be an album listening party for Views, but sadly it wasn’t.
Turns out that before releasing an album Drake holds pop up stores in major cities giving away free shirts to promote the album. Pretty cool. Didn’t know that before going though. We get there and the line is wrapped around the corner. We debated getting on line but we said fuck it and waited anyway. The doors to the store opened at 4:00pm and we got on line around 3:30pm. Our spot in line was on the corner of Grand & Chrystie Street. The store was located in the heart of Chinatown (Simran’s favorite part of NYC), theres markets on every corner selling raw seafood and fruit. Having raw fish out on an 80 degree day is not a pleasant combination.
When theres a line that wraps around the corner New Yorkers always tend to ask whats going on to the people in line, especially us for some reason, we just gave them a one word answer “Drake”. Some nodded and some walked away very confused and some even decided to get to the back of the line. We waited in line for about an hour and a half. It wasn’t too bad. The process was super quick. They let in about 40 people at a time into the store. The store was decked out in Beats X Views on the walls, there were beats headphones signed by Drake in a glass casing (surprised Simran didn’t try and take them). We walked to the front counter told the guys our sizes and were reminded that these shirts are compliments of Drake, thanks Drizzy.
It was fun and spontaneous, I'd do it again. We also managed to get free merch to rock during the Views tour ;).
